If a heading or reference list is placed in the wrong section, change that block’s category or mark the following blocks from that point. The count may differ from Word because schools and word processors use different rules.
Does word count include references? Follow your assignment brief. For example, a document with 1,800 body words and 200 reference words counts as 1,800 when references are excluded. In-text citations remain part of body text: this tool does not automatically remove them from the count.
